Had so much to do, so I did not have time to get a photo.

Alma

This is an old railwaymen's house. Railwaymen's house used to be a place where people held meetings, arranged parties, went dancing etc.. It almost rotted in it's place, but someone came and renovated it and even expanded it. Now it is a hotel and a restaurant. Now it's called Alma(a finnish woman's name).

Statue of two composers

The statue in the back is for two Finnish composers: Toivo Kuula and Heikki Klemetti. Both born near Seinäjoki.  Toivo Kuula lived from 1883 to 1918 and Heikki Klemetti from 1876 - 1953.

The gardeners of Seinäjoki have planted a heart in front of it. I quess it represents one of the slogans used in marketing of Seinäjoki "Hearty Seinäjoki"

The midnight of Juhannus in Nurmo

It is Juhannus, the festival of midsummer now. The sun sets only for few hours. In Lappi, northern Finland sun doesn't set at all. This photo was taken at midnight along a field in Nurmo. Nurmo is part of Seinäjoki.

Water tower

This is an old water tower. It stands along the railway so I think it has served the steam engines.

Future museum of art?

People are figuring out what to do with these old buildings. They have served last as storages for the the defense forces. As the army doesn't need them anymore some new purpose will have to come up.

Some have proposed that they could be renovated and remodeled to be the long awaited art museum of Seinäjoki. But some people(like me) are afraid that the building is a bit large for an art museum of a city this size. They would have to buy a lot of art to fill the buildings. Let's see what happens.

Törnävän kirkko

This one of the churches we have in Seinäjoki. It's called Törnävän kirkko. It is an old gunpowder warehouse. It was built in 1827 and remodelled to be a church in 1864.

Charge your electric car here

This is a car charging station. The only one I know in Seinäjoki. It stands near the railwaystation on the parking yard of a hotel. It says "Kurikka" on the side of it. Kurikka is a town about 30 km from Seinäjoki.

Provinssirock - Peek

As said earlier, I had no ticket to the festival. So I had to go and peek over the fence. This is System of a Down playing on the main stage. You have to believe me when I say that there's over 20 000 people between me and the stage. If you look closely you can see Serj Tankian on the screen.

And by request here is a bonus shot of the food platters

Saturday 18 June 2011

Provinssirock - Festival food

Sausage and fries, Kebab and fries, Chicken and rice etc...festival food at it's best.

Provinssirock - Near main gate

Had to go to a work trip today, so this is a quick one taken in the evening. This is near the main gate of provinssirock. Bands are playing so not so crowded here at the moment.

Thursday 16 June 2011

Provinssirock - Settling down

People are starting to settle down in provinssirock's camping areas. Thousands of people will arrive for the weekend. Many are staying in tents, campers and vans. I believe the hotels are also full. The festival has grown  tremendously in last fifteen years and the area where it is organized is getting too small. This year saturday and sunday are already sold out.

Provinssirock - Not having a ticket

The huge rock festival Provinssirock starts tomorrow here in Seinäjoki. I did not buy a ticket this year so there are not going to be any photoes of the bands. Instead I will try to post some photoes of the people and the atmosphere.

"Talvitien talo", pretty in pink

This pretty house stands in the center of Seinäjoki. I love the color and style of this house. It's one of the nice older houses remaining in Seinäjoki. It's called the "Talvitien talo". I believe the name relates to the original owner named Talvitie.

The Police along the river

The building behind the river is the new Police house. I believe the police moved in about a week ago. The building on the front is one of the many student houses in Seinäjoki.

Dandelions gone white

As promised before, I took another photo of the dandelion meadow now when they have gone all white. Although someone had cut the lawn on part of the meadow, there are still plenty of dandelions remaining.

"Veteran houses"

This is a typical neighborhood built in the 50's. A series of simple and economical model house designs was created by architects before and during the 2nd World War. The houses are usually built on-site by the families themselves.

The house model is usually called "Rintamamiestalo", "Veteran house", altough the original residents weren't always veterans. Most of the houses have now been renovated, some in a modern way and some in more traditional way. You can find streets like this in many towns around Finland.

Environmental art

These butterflies are also related to the major rock event, Provinssirock taking place in the end of next week

Thursday 9 June 2011

Temporary Bridge

This is a temporary bridge, built by the finnish defence forces. One of the oldest (and also one of the biggest) rock festivals in Finland, Provinssirock, is being built behind that bridge. Some of the main bands this year are: System of a down, Avenged Sevenfold and Volbeat. There are alltogether about 50 bands playing in four stages in the end of next week.

Birch Lane

This might be the longest birch lane that can be found in Seinäjoki.

Some of the first swimmers of this summer

If we don't count the people that swim all year("hole in the ice swimmers"), I believe here are some of the first swimmers of this summer. It's been a warm day and I've heard tomorrow will be even warmer (30 degrees celsius). Still the water in the river is like 15 degrees or less. There are several beaches in town, some in the river, some in the artificial lakes we have.

Sunday 5 June 2011

Events wall

These are posters of different events. This is a public fence near the Seinäjoki marketplace and for some reason it has come the place to attach these posters.

Towards the City

I you look closely, you can see the Lakeuden Risti tower peeking out behind the trees in the center of this photo. It's taken from the edge of the city. Almost at the same place than yesterday's photo, but towards the city, not away from it.

Friday 3 June 2011

This is how far you can see

You can see this far from the egde of Seinäjoki. This is why the area is called "Lakeus", "The Plains".

Theme day – Construction

Yesterday was the monthly theme day in the Daily Photo Community. This blog is not yet listed in the community and I'm a day late with the Construction theme, but here it is. This will be the new library of Seinäjoki. I will post more photoes of it as they get it finished.
