Seinäkuun Yö 2012

Seinäjoki has a traditional culture event called Seinäkuun yö. The name could be translated into Wallmoons night. I took a walk trough the town. It was a bit early so there event wasn't very crowded yet.

A band in a shopping center. Playing waltz and humppa.
This is a "outdoor livingroom" called StandBy. Soundcheck.
Faravidin sudet, History revitalization. Viking battles etc..
I believe this is Gavin Kshetri from Nepal playing pop and rock.

Kyrkösjärvi as seen from Kyrkösvuori

As promised yesterday, another view from Kyrkösvuori. This time with the lake view. I believe this could be one of the prettiest sceneries in Seinäjoki.

Kyrkösvuori

This is a solid rock near the lake Kyrkösjärvi. We took a walk in the woods and had a coffee break. This is almost as high as you can go in the area of Seinäjoki. You can also see Kyrkösjärvi from here, but I'll post a photo of that another day.

Kiosk

I posted a photo of this kiosk last year. Here's a closer look at it. Some caricatures are being
displayed on its glasses. Some may notice a reflection of the photographer also.

Varpula

This is one of the artificial lakes in the area of Seinäjoki, Varpula. This is a popular fishing lake. Some goldeneyes swimming in the photo if looked closely.

Törnävä bridge

This walking bridge crosses over the Seinäjoki river. In a month and a half tens of thousands people walk through it. That's because of the rock festival Provinssirock's main stage is on the other side of the river.

May Day

The 1st of May or "Vappu" as said in Finnish is a day off in Finland. It is the labour day and there is a lot of political activity going on. Also people gather around the parks and marketplaces to celebrate the spring. Balloons, streamers, horns and other stuff play a big role in this celebration.

Note: If you look closely you can see some famous finnish characters: The green pig from the famous mobile game Angry Birds and also Muumipeikko (Moomintroll) with Niiskuneiti (the Snork Maiden) from the Moomin series.
